Degrees and Certificiations

Arlene received her BS and MS in Occupational Therapy from D'Youville College in Buffalo, NY. She received her Doctorate in Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship, at the Veteran's Administration, while also faculty at Indiana University in Indianapolis, IN. She is currently faculty at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. She is also a registered yoga teacher.

Books and Articles

Dr Schmid has published over 50 research articles, mostly pertaining to yoga as an integral part of therapy. She has co-authored many chapters on complimentary and integrative therapy in multiple rehabilitation textbooks. Drs. Arlene Schmid & Marieke VanPuymbroeck most recently wrote a book entitled 'Yoga Therapy for Stroke: A Handbook for Yoga Therapists and Health Care Professionals.'

Future Projects

Dr. Schmid recently attended the WFOT (World Federation of Occupational Therapy) Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. While at the conference, she met many Occupational Therapists who personally practiced yoga, yet didn't utilize yoga in their clinical practice. Her future endeavors include finding ways to bridge this gap.
